Violence in the Classroom

January 25, 2011
In the new instituto (Highschool and Middleschool Mushed into one) one must expect violence. I mean the sistuationes are ruff, you can tell. No mirrors, toiletpaper, or even toiletseats in the bathroom or how they will give you terrible punishments if you don't bring your books to class, even if you have to carry a backpack that ways at least 2 tons (not enough lockers for everyone). Did you know that the Spanish are now having back problems just becuase their bags were too heavy and they sat wrong in school?
Well, anyway, back on track. I have seen several fist fights in middle of class that the teachers don't do anything about. But today was the first time I ever saw a teacher hit a child.
It was the second to last hour. We all were tired and wanted to go home. On top of that we were learning about about a pretty boring subject too, poems. The teacher was going through asking people if they knew any poems. I said I did, but in English. I was going to say one of Shel Siversteen but the only one that came to mind was "We gave you a chance to water the plants, we didn't mean that way now zip up your pants!!!" So you can see why I freaked out. The teacher was somehow distracted by a girl n a corner that kept talking. When she was out in what they call "the street" he turn his attention back on me. By that time I realize how many poems I have read and how little I have memorized! So then I stuck with Plan G. Sing a song that rimes. After saying that I was embarassed and he making my sing it, I sung. Torwards the end of the song a boy stuck his hands and moved them to the left and then the right. At the end of my song, the teacher hit the boy on the back of his head the boy yelped and stopped staying quiet as he was yelled at. THe teacher was going on and on saying that I hava a right to be embarassed about singing and asking him why he was not ashamed and emabaraessed to inturupt.

Poor kid!!!! His name is Sergio. I am going to ask you all to pray for everyone that showes up in my stories. They need it ALOT!!! The teachers name is Pablo, if you want to know. Also, I would like your prayers. That Jesus would cover me and protect me from all this violence around me. Thank you!

I would love it if you were able to email with me. If you check your email every day it's not overwhelming, and it's a great way to keep in touch. Love you
